Notes: Emily Beatrice left England around 1912, to work as a nurse in
East Africa, where she married Francis STUART. She is known to have returned
to England in 1924, with 9 year-old daughter Beatrice Joan, but without husband
Francis. They went to stay with Emily's husband's uncle, William CLARK,
at Cranbury Lodge, near Wigan, Lancashire.
Nine months later, Emily left for East Africa again, apparently alone, but the
ship's register also includes a Mr F STUART. He was one of a group, including
army officers, who worked for the government, and no further details about them
appear in the register, but he was probably Emily's husband, Francis. Presumably,
Beatrice Joan stayed on to go to school in England.
No record can be found of Francis & Emily STUART's eventual return to England,
but it must have been before 1950, when Reverend Francis STUART was one of the
executors of the will of Grace Helen PRACY, his wife's unmarried sister.
