Notes: According to the Ashill baptism register, Thomas and Alice (late
ALCOCK) BLOWER had a daughter Frances born 17 Apr 1807, and a son James born
20 Jul 1807. This is not biologically possible! Frances must have been the daughter
of Thomas and Alice, because she was living with them in 1841, and recorded as
the daughter of the widowed Alice in 1851.
So, although James is definitely recorded in the Ashill baptism register as the
son of Thomas and Alice (late ALCOCK) BLOWER, he was possibly the son of Thomas
and Ann (late YULL) BLOWER, who were having children baptised at Ashill at around
the same time. Both couples (Thomas & Ann and Thomas & Alice) had previously
baptised a James. Thomas & Ann had a James baptised in 1793, who was buried in
1799 "aged 6, son of Thomas & Ann (late YULL) BLOWER". Thomas & Alice had a son
James born/baptised in 1802, for whom no childhood burial can be found. These
facts would seem to add weight to the idea that 1807 James was the son of Thomas
& Ann (late YULL) BLOWER.
