Source: Approximate year of birth only, calculated from:
1911 census of Hastings, Sussex - aged
34, born Sussex Hastings (already living with Alfred COBB, although they did
not marry for another four years)
[11760] Source: Online GRO marriages index at FreeBMD.org.uk,.... "Dec 1915, Alfred J COBB & Mary BASSETT, Hastings, 2b 87". Alfred COBB's first wife was still very much alive, so this must have been a bigamous marriage.

Notes: James and Mary (WITT) MARTIN, and children James, John, Mary, and
Henry, left Portsmouth for Australia on the barque 'Isabella' on 9 Jan 1838. They arrived in Hobart, Tasmania, on 4 May
1838 'a fine day'. A daughter Julia Harriet was born during the journey (information
supplied by Verity Baylis). James & Mary MARTIN's arrival is recorded on page
13 of Mary's brother William WITT's autobiographical "An Account of His Life".
James MARTIN is identified as the husband of Mary WITT in her father William WITT's will in 1856.
James MARTIN and Mary WITT were the great-great-grandparents of Verity Baylis.

[6033] Source: Approximate date of death only. Emily Jane SAUNTER told her granddaughter Doris that her first husband [sic] had slipped between the barges one dark & stormy night, and was drowned in the Thames. This is almost certainly true, although Emily was actually referring to her second husband, Henry J K STOYLES. No body was found, and therefore no death certificate could be issued, so the date of Henry's death is a bit of a mystery. His wife had a child, Elizabeth Jane WEBB (father Alfred George WEBB), on 6 Feb 1881, so Henry had probably died before the conception date, around May 1880. And, Henry had been witness to a marriage in August 1878. So, he must have died between August 1878 and May 1880 - probably 1879 (information supplied by Vera Bailey)
[11306] Source: Marriage register, online at www.ancestry.co.uk. Emily Jane's (married) surname was recorded correctly, but she appears to have passed herself off as a spinster, and given her late husband's father's name as her father.

[6795] Source: Printed baptism register transcript by the Wiltshire Family History Society [looked up by David Pracy]. Recorded as Priscilla TAYLOUR, no parents given. This Priscilla is almost certainly our ancestor, as Priscilla was a rarely-used name in Bishopstone, only one other being baptised there between 1575 and 1700.
