[73] Notes: Lillian has now passed on, but a few years back (c.1994) I had a long phone conversation with her, and she told me about herself and her family. Her father George was a butcher, in Canning Town and Leytonstone. Although she lived with her parents, she spent a lot of time at Therfield with her grandparents, Alfred and Eliza Hagger. She spent so much time at Therfield that the local school board forced her to go to school there. She recalled that her grandfather was known in the village as 'civil' Alf because he was such a nice man.

Notes: The Berkshire Marriages Transcription database, at Findmypast.co.uk,
includes the following (spotted by Mandy Adams):
26 Jun 1694, St Mary's Church, Speen, Berkshire,
William PREASY & Mary TARRANT, by banns.
Although Speen is about 19 miles from Bishopstone, the timing of the marriage
(and the rarity of William's surname) makes it quite likely that this was the
couple who began baptising their 13 children at Bishopstone in 1696.
